Avenatti Sentenced To 14 Years For Embezzlement And Obstruction

Justice Sotomayor's Hypothetical Compares Obstruction Law To Theater Rules

During the ongoing legal proceedings involving former President Donald Trump, a recording was played by Trump attorney Emil Bove that shed light on the strained relationship between Stormy Daniels and her agent Gina Rodriguez. The recording featured Keith Davidson discussing how former attorney Michael Avenatti had driven a 'serious wedge' between the two women.

In 2022, Michael Avenatti was sentenced to 14 years in prison and was also ordered to pay nearly $11 million in restitution. This sentencing came as a result of Avenatti embezzling millions of dollars from four of his clients and engaging in obstruction of justice.

Earlier in the same year, Avenatti pleaded guilty to four counts of wire fraud, one for each client he had stolen from, and one count of endeavoring to obstruct the administration of the Internal Revenue Code. Prosecutors revealed that Avenatti had obstructed the IRS's efforts to collect $5 million in unpaid payroll taxes owed by Tully’s Coffee.

The revelations from the recording and the subsequent legal actions against Avenatti have further highlighted the complex web of legal issues surrounding the individuals involved in this high-profile case.
