Australia's Kurtis Mathews has produced a clutch last dive to sneak into the men's 3m springboard final at the Paris Olympics.

Marshall has qualified seventh of the eight finalists after nailing his final dive in Wednesday's semi-finals.

The 25-year-old produced a slick last effort - a forward four and a half somersaults - which returned his top score of the semis, 79.80.

That dive lifted then Wodonga-born Marshall to 417.15 points and into Thursday's medal round - China's Zangyuan Wang (537.85) led the field.

In the women's 3m springboard preliminaries, Australia's Maddison Keeney advanced to the semi-final as the second-ranked diver.

Like Marshall, Keeney's final dive was her best - her forward two and a half somersaults and two twists reaped a score of 81.60.

Keeney (337.35) was bested only by China's Yiwan Chen (356.50) in a confidence-boosting display for the Thursday semis.

Fellow Australian Alysha Koloi (276.60) was ranked 16th and also to progressed.

The women's final will be held on Friday.
