A family from Australia are desperate for answers after their 21-year-old son plunged to his death in London during last month’s heatwave.
Fletcher Beasley, who was a law and business student at Queensland University of Technology, died after falling from the Victoria Embankment in central London in the early hours of June 25.
He was with his girlfriend and friends at the scenic riverside promenade, which stretches from the Palace of Westminster to Blackfriars Bridge.
London Ambulance Service reported that a man in his 20s had died after falling from a height.
“Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the man died at the scene,” police said.
A coroner will now investigate the circumstances surrounding Fletcher’s death.
Fletcher’s parents, Katrina and Matt Beasley, described their son’s loss as immeasurable.
They said in a statement: “Our adored son Fletcher was our much-loved brother, grandson, partner, friend and colleague, who is deeply loved and cherished by all who knew him.
“He was at the centre of our close and loving family with siblings Sam and Holly. He was our perfect boy. Fletcher shared a beautiful relationship with his long-term partner Angelina and made the most of life with the people that he loved.
“Funny, loyal, curious about the world, and always full of warmth, he lived a balanced life, playing sport, running, travelling and having fun.
“Fletcher was deeply generous, selfless and community minded. His family knows he would have wanted to help others in any way he could.”
His father has flown to the UK to bring his son’s body home.
A fundraiser has also been set up by Fletcher’s family, with the money raised going towards others in similar situations.
