Australian police charge man after fatal collision that killed Co Derry man

Police in Australia have charged a 25-year-old man following a fatal collision which claimed the life of Max Boggs from Co Derry.

Mr Boggs, 18, died on June 5 when he was thrown from a car in Cobden, about three hours from Melbourne.

Two other men, aged 30 and 21, who are also Irish nationals, were travelling in the same car and sustained serious injuries. The pair were rushed to Warnambool Hospital.

A 25-year-old man, who was driving the other vehicle, was arrested around 4pm (Australian time) on June 12 and was charged with dangerous driving causing death, careless driving and failing to give way at a stop sign.

He was remanded in custody and is due to appear at the Warnambool Magistrates’ court on Tuesday, June 14.

Beloved son of Ryan Boggs and Rhonda Connell, Max's passing has caused an outpouring of grief in the community who are shocked and saddened at the loss of someone so young.

His family, who trade under the name Gorthill Farm Contracting, said on Facebook: "We are all totally broken. Rest easy Max."

Max's father, Ryan paid a heartbreaking tribute to his boy online. He said: "Max You weren’t just my son, you were my right arm, my best friend and my firstborn. You made me proud every day. Best big brother ever. Love you son, sleep well."
