Australia have been warned that there's 'a lot more to come' after ex-coach Justin Langer lashed out at his former players.
Langer blasted his former stars who have complained about him in the media - describing them as 'cowards' in an explosive rant.
The 52-year-old surprisingly resigned as Australia boss in February after lifting the T20 World Cup and thrashing England 4-0 in the Ashes. Langer rejected a six-month contract extension and stepped away from his role after his side crushed England in a dominant Test series.
The former opening batsman cited a lack of support from players and staff, as well as from the Cricket Australia governing body as the salient reasons behind his exit. And he has now hit out at players for speaking to the media rather than confronting him over his purportedly intense coaching style.
"Everyone was being nice to my face," Langer said on the BackChat podcast. "But I was reading about this stuff and half of it, I swear to God and on my kids' lives, I could not believe that is what was making the papers. A lot of journalists use the word 'source'. I would say, change that word to 'coward'.
"Because what do you mean 'a source says'? They've either got an axe to grind with someone and they won't come and say it to your face, or they're just leaking stuff for their own agenda. I hate that."
Media reports in Australia concerning the discontent towards Langer's regime were rife before his exit and he was clearly angered by leaks within camp and the subsequent delayed feedback from his former players.
Disagreements have continued between Australia's current and former players over Langer's controversial exit as coach. And former wicketkeeper-batsman Brad Haddin, who once worked as a coach in Langer's setup, has warned that the row involving Australia's national team is far from over.
“This is just a really ugly situation,” Haddin told TripleM. “This has been going on now for some time, this has been going on for over 12 months. That takes it to a new level. Obviously at some stage during his tenure he lost the change room. Whatever opinion you have on that, that’s happened, that’s fact.
“But to have this still going on after 10 months, this is a guy that’s played 100 Tests for Australia, he’s been a very successful coach. Yes it ended messy and by the looks of it there’s still a lot more to come out."
