What we learned today, Saturday 26 November
And with that we are going to put this blog to bed. Thank you so much for spending the evening with us. It was a big night.
Before we go, let’s recap the main headlines:
Victorian Labor has been re-elected with a majority. The premier, Daniel Andrews, claims victory and declares: “Friends, hope always defeats hate.”
The Liberal leader, Matthew Guy, concedes defeat, but says the Coalition will have more MPs than in the last parliament.
The Greens leader, Samantha Ratnam, calls the election a Greenslide after her party claims the seat of Richmond.
Teal independents are likely to win two or three Melbourne seats, but rural independents have fared poorly in the election.
The Liberal candidate and former tennis pro Sam Groth wins Nepean from Labor.
The Labor campaign manager, James Merlino, says the Liberals’ focus on Andrews was a “bad call”.
The Liberal MP Matt Bach calls it “a deeply disappointing result”.
The Victorian result shares parallels with the federal election, analyst Ben Raue says.
Labor and the Coalition both see declines in their primary vote.
There is still so much to go over the weekend – we will be back tomorrow with breaking news on the tight seats and analysis throughout the day. Until then, stay safe.

Daniel Andrews says he will govern for everyone:
We will deliver every part of our positive plan to benefit each and every Victorian no matter how you voted …. That is what our job is. We take our responsibility seriously because Labor does what matters.
