Defending champions and cousins Donna Lobban and Cameron Pilley have been beaten in a battle for mixed doubles squash bronze.

The Australians were beaten 11-8 11-4 by India's Saurav Ghosal and Dipika Pallikal in Birmingham on Sunday in a reversal of the gold medal clash on the Gold Coast four years ago.

Things have changed for Pallikal since then though, the mother welcoming twin boys last October.

"If you'd asked me two years back whether I wanted to get back on court, let alone win a medal, I would have definitely doubted myself," she said.

"The sacrifices of time away from the family, getting up in the morning and doing the same thing again and again while being away from the kids, it makes it all worth it.

"When people say one child is hard, I just have to laugh because I know how difficult it is having two. It's not easy because they are very, very naughty."

Alex Haydon and Jess Turnbull, the only other Australians in squash action on Sunday, won their women's doubles plate semi-final against Botswana 11-4 11-3.
