Aussie shares in record close, break $2.9 trillion mark

The local bourse has ended the week on its highest ever note, locking in a record close after hitting new intraday peaks for five straight sessions.

The S&P/ASX200 shrugged off a midday wobble to charge higher by 64.8 points, or 0.73 per cent, to a best-ever close of 8,938.6, a 1.4 per cent gain for the week..
