Aurelien Tchouameni explains why he chose Real Madrid despite Liverpool interest

Midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni has been officially unveiled as a Real Madrid player and the 22-year-old has explained his decision to join the La Liga and Champions League winners.

A number of top European clubs were linked with a move for the player this summer but his intention to move to Spain was clear. Liverpool were among those to identify Tchouameni as a target but the ECHO understands his representatives informed the club's recruitment of his desire to go to Real Madrid.

After completing his medical earlier this week, the French midfielder has finalised his £85million pound move to the Bernabeu and he says he 'didn't hesitate' once Real Madrid came calling.

He told the media on Tuesday: "I had the chance to choose other clubs, yes - but as soon as I knew Real Madrid wanted me, I never doubted.

"Kylian decided to stay at PSG and he already knew that I was going to leave Monaco and wanted to know if I could go to PSG, but I told him I wanted Madrid and he understood perfectly.

"When Madrid called, I didn't hesitate and I talked about it with my family. In the Champions League final there were already negotiations between me and Real Madrid and it is true that when I watched the games against PSG and Man City, I wrote to my agent and told him: do everything possible to take me there, please."

Liverpool swiftly turned their attention to further up the field and are on the verge of completing their first major signing of the summer. Benfica striker Darwin Nunez is in England to undergo medical checks ahead of his £64.1million (€75m) move to Anfield.
