AURANGABAD: A group of unidentified thieves fled away in a car belonging to a retired staffer of the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELTS), Aurangabad after burgling his house of valuables worth over Rs 20 lakh.
Police said that Uday Joshi's house situated in 12th scheme of Shivaji Nagar area was targeted by burglars, who broke open the house and walked away with 290gm gold ornaments, 150gm silver ornaments, cash of about Rs 25, 000, a couple of cameras, a car amongst other things. Police said that the Joshi couple on Thursday left for Srirampur in Ahmednagar district for meeting their ailing kin.
The incident came to light on Friday morning, after one of the neighbours saw Joshi's car's cover lying on the road and he dialled a call to enquire about it.
After learning about it, Joshi rushed to the city. In the meantime, the police was also alerted.
Considering gravity of the case, a police team and crime branch officials reached the spot. They were followed by forensic team comprising finger print experts as well as sniffer dog squad.
Following the visit, deputy commissioner of police Deepak Girhe said that the police have recovered CCTV footages in which suspects can be seen driving the stolen car sometime around Thursday midnight. While assistant commissioner of police (crime) Vishal Dhume said that different teams have been formed to identify the suspects and detect the case.
Police citing Joshi's statement said that the car keys were in the house and the suspects took them for stealing the car.
