AURANGABAD: The Aurangabad rural police that found an unidentified man’s body on Saturday morning not only established the deceased’s identity, but also arrested the accused within a couple of hours of the incident coming to light.
The deceased has been identified as Aman Nikam (23), of Gangapur, while the accused Sagar alias Sonu Kurhade is a resident of Ramanagar, Gangapur.
The victim’s body was spotted by locals in village Varkhed of Gangapur taluka following which the police patil alerted the police.
Superintendent of police Maneesh Kalwaniya said that on reaching the spot, police found that body had visible strangulation marks, indicating that it could be a case of homicide.
Accordingly, multiple teams were pressed for establishing the identity of the person and also for detecting the case. Shillegaon police station inspector Machindra Survase said that after the identity of the deceased was established, a villager informed that the victim was last spotted with the accused man.
A team was immediately rushed and the accused was rounded up for questioning. “During the preliminary probe said the accused man has claimed of suspecting his wife having an extra marital affair with the victim man and so he allegedly murdered him,” said Survase.
According to the confession by the accused, on Friday night, he took Aman with him on the pretext of dropping their common friend on a bike to a nearby village.
While on their way back, Sagar stopped his bike at a deserted place and questioned Aman about his alleged illicit relationship with his wife. The interaction turned into a heated argument, following which the accused strangulated Aman to death with a scarf.
The accused returned home and started behaving normally untill the police reached his place on Saturday morning and arrested him.
