Aung San Suu Kyi: Son issues update on mother amid criticism of Myanmar’s military junta

  • Kim Aris, the youngest son of Aung San Suu Kyi , has stated that Myanmar 's military junta refuses to release his 81-year-old mother because they remain terrified of her political influence and widespread public support.
  • Speaking at a screening of an Independent documentary examining her life, Aris expressed serious concerns over his mother's health and demanded full transparency regarding the conditions of her detention.
  • Aris dismissed recently published photographs of his mother receiving books and a letter from King Charles, describing them as a junta attempt to appease international calls for transparency and legitimise their rule.

  • Urging global action, Aris called for sustained international sanctions against Myanmar's regime, highlighting that military forces continue to bomb citizens despite losing ground territory.
