- Canadian-born Indigenous actor and filmmaker Georgina Lightning has died at the age of 63 following a fatal accident during a rodeo event held at Enoch Cree Nation in Alberta.
- Tributes have poured in from across the entertainment industry, with her daughter Crystle Lightning describing her as a matriarch and role model, while her Auf Wiedersehen, Pet co-star Tim Healy remembered her as a lovely lady and a joy to work with.
- Over a career spanning more than three decades, Lightning featured in notable television series and films including Walker, Texas Ranger, The West Wing, Three Pines , and the 2002 series of British comedy-drama Auf Wiedersehen, Pet.
- In addition to her acting work, she made her directorial debut with the film Older Than America and had recently worked on the upcoming 2025 horror film Die My Love alongside Jennifer Lawrence.
- A prominent advocate for expanding Indigenous participation in media, Lightning co-founded Tribal Alliance Productions to support Native storytellers and received numerous accolades, including the White House Project's Epic Award in 2010.
