Merrick Garland U.S. Attorney General Garland in Washington

Today on Capitol Hill, Attorney General Merrick Garland is set to testify before the House Judiciary Committee to address concerns raised by Republicans regarding the perceived weaponization of the Justice Department. Garland is expected to defend the DOJ against allegations of politicization and misuse of legal tactics during his tenure.

Congressman Jim Jordan, leading the committee, has expressed worries about what he calls a troubling increase in politicized prosecutions and the use of abusive lawfare strategies to target political adversaries. Specific cases mentioned include those involving former President Donald Trump, with Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, Georgia DA Fannie Willis, and special counsel Jack Smith also under scrutiny.

FBI Director Christopher Wray to Address National Security Threats

Simultaneously, FBI Director Christopher Wray will be testifying before a Senate committee on pressing national security issues, including concerns related to the border. Wray previously highlighted the diverse and severe threats originating from the border, such as drug trafficking and violent crimes linked to gangs involved in fentanyl distribution.

Wray is also expected to discuss the significant threat posed by the Chinese Communist government to critical U.S. infrastructure. This testimony comes amid growing apprehension over the potential impact of foreign entities on American security and stability.
