A 30-year-old man who punched and briefly knocked out another man in a common close at a block of flats has been remanded in custody and is awaiting sentence for the attack.
Kieran Fletcher told Perth Sheriff Court via his solicitor last week he wished to plead guilty to two amended charges relating to his behaviour at Murray’s Court in Coupar Angus on December 17 last year.
Solicitor Mike Tavendale said Fletcher, who appeared at court via a video link from HMP Perth, admitted assaulting Neil Hutton that day by punching him on the face causing him to lose consciousness.
The charge had originally alleged that Fletcher struck Hutton in the face with a can of beer but this was struck out by an amendment.
Fiscal depute Alistair McDermid told the court Hutton had been with a small group at another address in the block when Fletcher knocked at his door and when he went out to see what he wanted he hit him.
Mr McDermid said Hutton had a bloody nose and a cut to his lip when he regained consciousness and that Fletcher retreated to his flat after the attack. He said a woman at the scene phoned an ambulance then Fletcher reappeared in the close clutching a knife.
Mr McDermid said the stand off came to nothing, however, as Fletcher then accidentally dropped the knife and another person on the scene kicked it away.
He added Mr Hutton did not require any medical attention.
Fletcher further admitted to having a knife in a public place without a reasonable excuse or any lawful authority.
The charge originally alleged Fletcher had two knives during the stand off but again this was struck out by an amendment.
Sheriff Euan Duthie adjourned the case last Thursday and called for reports on Fletcher ahead of his next court appearance later this year.
