Atletico Madrid vs Tottenham LIVE
Atletico Madrid tore Tottenham Hotspur apart in a stunning first-half blitz on Tuesday, powering to a 5-2 victory in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie and leaving the Premier League side with a mountain to climb in London. The visitors' 22-year-old goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky endured a night to forget on his first appearance since October and only his third of the season.
Two costly errors from the Czech helped Atletico race into a commanding lead and he was substituted in the 17th minute by manager Igor Tudor immediately after Atletico's third goal. Marcos Llorente struck after six minutes when Kinsky slipped while playing the ball out and Antoine Griezmann doubled the lead in the 14th when Micky van de Ven also lost his footing.
A minute later Julian Alvarez walked in the third after Kinsky miscued a clearance, the earliest a team has gone three goals up in a Champions League knockout match. After Kinsky was replaced by Guglielmo Vicario, Atletico added a fourth when Robin Le Normand's header crossed the line following a rebound from Griezmann's free kick. Tottenham defender Pedro Porro reduced the deficit after 26 minutes. Alvarez then raced from his own half to score the hosts' fifth goal in the 55th before Dominic Solanke punished an error by Atletico keeper Jan Oblak which gifted Spurs a second goal.

Tudor accused of 'killing' Kinsky's career
23:01 , Oli GentIgor Tudor’s man-management was branded the “very worst” after the Tottenham interim head coach substituted Antonin Kinsky after just 17 minutes.
Spurs were 3-0 down against Atletico Madrid at the Estadio Metropolitano, with Kinsky gifting the hosts two of those early goals on a nightmare Champions League debut for the goalkeeper.
The Czech had been chosen ahead of Guglielmo Vicario on an important night for Spurs, with Tudor making a statement with his team selection, making five changes to the side that lost 3-1 against Crystal Palace.
The defeat in Madrid was Tudor’s fourth of his interim reign, and it means that he has now lost every one of the matches he has taken charge of at Spurs.
Three things we learned from Spurs defeat as Tudor on borrowed time

Sam Tabuteau reports
21:51 , Oli Gent90 mins: It is funny, but Spurs have not been that bad overall. There is the obvious context of Atletico stepping off after taking the lead, but Spurs have actually shown a fair bit more intent going forward than they have done throughout the whole of Tudor's tenure.

Goal! Atletico Madrid 5-1 Tottenham
21:17 , Oli Gent55 mins: Yep, scrap that, it’s five. End to end as Oblak produces a fine save to deny Richarlison, but Spurs are wide open at the back, and Alvarez is sent through after a sensational touch and ball through from Griezmann. He slots in the fifth.
Atletico Madrid 4-1 Tottenham

Atletico Madrid 4-1 Tottenham
20:46 , Oli Gent43 mins: Close! It should have been five, as Atleti carve Spurs open. Griezmann drives infield and finds Lookman, with Ruggeri on the outside. He cuts it back, Griezmann misses it, and Llorente puts it wide!

Sam Tabuteau reports
20:29 , Oli Gent26 mins: I have never seen anything like this, Atletico are now 4-0 up after Le Normand head home. It is a great initial save from Vicario, but the hosts scramble it in at the second attempt. Igor Tudor is calling for calm, it has gone beyond that point.
Goal! Atletico Madrid 4-0 Tottenham
20:26 , Oli Gent22 mins: It’s four, and Spurs are all over the shop. Le Normand celebrates, after Griezmann fires in the free kick. It goes all the way through as Vicario parries, but he can’t do anything about Le Normand bundling it home as the goal-line technology buzzes the referee’s watch.
Sam Tabuteau reports
20:23 , Oli Gent20 mins: What has just happened. Three mistakes, three goals and we have played just over 20 minutes. Kinsky's game is done, and Vicario is on. The Spurs 'keeper is followed down the tunnel by a number of staff as well as Gallagher, Palhinha and Solanke also head off with him. It could not have gone any worse for Spurs, it really couldn't.
Atletico Madrid 3-0 Tottenham
20:20 , Oli Gent17 mins: Wow. Kinsky has been subbed off. Vicario is coming on. Kinsky has gone straight down the tunnel.
Goal! Atletico Madrid 3-0 Tottenham
20:20 , Oli Gent16 mins: Kinsky has slipped again, and it’s three! Alvarez scores as straight from the restart, the Spurs keeper swipes at and misses the ball, and Alvarez darts in to tap home.
Goal! Atletico Madrid 2-0 Tottenham
20:18 , Oli Gent14 mins: It goes from bad to worse for Spurs as Griezmann doubles the lead. Richarlison and Van de Ven both lose their footing, as Spurs fail to deal with a long ball as Sarr doesn’t clear. Van de Ven slips, and Griezmann nips in to slot past Kinsky.
Atletico Madrid 1-0 Tottenham
20:15 , Oli Gent12 mins: The worst possible start for Spurs, how do they react?
Sam Tabuteau reports
20:11 , Oli Gent8 mins: I mean you simply cannot write this. Kinsky, in for Vicario, on his Champions League debut falls over and gifts the ball to Atletico inside the area. It is then a simple finish for Llorente, and inside six minutes Spurs are behind. There is just no accounting for a mistake like that.
Goal! Atletico Madrid 1-0 Tottenham
20:10 , Oli Gent6 mins: A disaster from Kinsky, who slips as he changes his mind with the ball at his feet. The Spurs keeper hands it straight to Alvarez, who slots across for Llorente to slot home.
Atletico Madrid 0-0 Tottenham
20:07 , Oli Gent4 mins: An early yellow for Spence as he catches Griezmann. He was late on the Frenchman who got his pass away before being felled.
Atletico Madrid 0-0 Tottenham
20:06 , Oli Gent3 mins: Positive play down the left from Tel as Spurs look to get forward immediately. It is a back three shape from Tudor with Romero in the middle of the trio.
Kick off!
20:03 , Oli Gent1 min: We are underway.
Why is Vicario not playing?
19:57 , Oli GentTottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has been dropped for tonight’s Champions League with Atletico Madrid.
The Italian has started all three of Spurs’ games under interim head coach Igor Tudor so far.
However, after losing all three, the Croat has decided to switch things up, and he brings Antonin Kinsky in to start at the Estadio Metropolitano this evening.
Sam Tabuteau reports
19:42 , Oli GentAtmosphere building inside the Metropolitano ahead of kick off. There were grey clouds circling as we entered the stadium earlier, signalling that we could be in for some pretty heavy rainfall tonight. Ominous signs for Tottenham?
Fan reaction
19:30 , Oli GentSome improvements to previous teams, but also some questionable choices. Hard to predict our Champions League games, but let’s just hope we don’t suffer a debilitating thrashing. League is more important anyway, I guess… #UCL #ATMTOT #THFC #COYS https://t.co/RXYFdfpFjD

Vicario dropped!
19:09 , Oli GentA huge decision from Tudor.
A big chance for Antonin Kinsky this evening!
Sam Tabuteau reports
18:56 , Oli GentAnother game, another bold call from Igor Tudor as he drops Guglielmo Vicario to the bench as one of four changes. Vicario has started every league and Champions League game this season, but drops to the bench in place of Kinsky. Tudor has also opted for a young midfield pairing of Gray and Sarr, while Solanke also drops out of the starting lineup. Tudor said tonight's game was not a priority, and his lineup reflects that.

We’ll find out shortly...
Poch has Spurs plan as pressure on Tudor piles
18:29 , Oli GentMauricio Pochettino is reportedly set to be in attendance when Tottenham face Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.
Free-falling Spurs travel to the Spanish capital on Tuesday night desperately seeking a distraction from their dire domestic fortunes as they meet Diego Simeone’s side in the first leg of their last-16 tie.
Igor Tudor will be in the dugout for Tottenham as the interim boss aims for a first victory in his fourth match in charge as Thomas Frank’s initial successor, having already come under sustained pressure after successive defeats by Arsenal, Fulham and Crystal Palace to open his tenure deepened fears over a disastrous relegation from the Premier League.
Tudor’s Spurs will be watched in person by a man heavily touted once again to be in the running for the full-time job in the summer, with multiple outlets including The Telegraph claiming that Pochettino is planning to be present at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Tottenham in turmoil as Tudor seeks reprieve
18:23 , Oli GentTottenham return to the scene of their 2019 Champions League final defeat to Liverpool as a club in turmoil, Sam Tabuteau writes.
Tonight they take on Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano. It was at the same stadium nearly seven years ago that - despite falling to goals from Mohammed Salah and Divock Origi - Spurs were supposed to embark on a new chapter of success in the club’s history.
Yet, the failure to build on that night in Madrid has hung over Spurs. They now find themselves staring at relegation to the Championship.
Spurs arrive in Madrid fresh, after a rare weekend off, but somewhat distracted. With just one point separating them from the relegation zone, tonight’s game against Atletico feels like something of an aside, and interim manager Igor Tudor has admitted that Premier League survival remains the priority.

Head to head
18:05 , Oli GentTottenham have faced Atletico Madrid only once in a competitive match, beating the Spaniards 5-1 in the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup in 1963. Among the scorers that day were Jimmy Greaves and Terry Dyson, who scored a brace each, and John White.
These two sides also met for a pre-season friendly in Sydney ahead of the 2016/17 campaign, which Atletico won 1-0 thanks to Diego Godin’s winner.

Tottenham wins: 1

Standard Sport prediction
18:00 , Oli GentTottenham are yet to show any signs of forward progress under Tudor’s instruction, but the Champions League represents largely uncharted waters for the Croat.
He has yet to find a winning formula with the side, and this match will not present a meaningful opportunity for him to do so. Atletico are a strong team in good form, and Simeone may well be licking his lips at the prospect of facing this wounded Tottenham side.
Atletico are far from a flawless outfit, as evidenced by their league phase losses to Bodo/Glimt, Arsenal and Liverpool, but they will surely fancy their chances against a quickly spiralling Spurs.
Atletico to win, 3-0.
Atletico team news
17:53 , Oli GentDiego Simeone has very few concerns. Midfielder Pablo Barrios is out with a thigh injury, while Rodrigo Mendoza is out with an ankle sprain. Ilias Kostis is out for the season with an ACL rupture.
Julian Alvarez should start up top for Atletico. His five goals in nine appearances this season make him the eighth-most productive goalscorer in the competition, level with his team-mate Alexander Sorloth and Newcastle’s Harvey Barnes.
Tottenham team news
17:45 , Oli GentTottenham’s injury woes which undercut Thomas Frank’s managerial reign have persisted into Tudor’s tenure.
He does, however, have some fresh faces on the plane to Madrid. Set to return are Djed Spence and Radu Dragusin, who both missed the Palace defeat through injury.
Destiny Udogie is set to miss out with a thigh injury, while Lucas Bergvall will stay at home with an ankle sprain. Ben Davies is also set to sit out for another few weeks.
Mohammed Kudus’ injury to a tendon in his quad will also keep him out of contention until next month.
Wilson Odobert and James Maddison are both likely out for the season, while Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski are also dealing with long-term injuries.
Micky van de Ven will be available despite being sent off against Palace. Cristian Romero is also available amid a domestic ban.
