At least 5,300 killed and 10,000 missing after deadly floods in Libya

In Libya, poor coordination between rival governments and flooded roads are delaying aid to the East of the country which has been devastated by storm floods. More than 5,300 people have been killed and around 10, 000 are missing. 

Also, World suicide prevention day was marked at the start of the week. It is a crucial issue for the continent as Africa has the highest average suicide rate globally. 6 of the 10 countries in the world with the highest rates are on the continent, with Lesotho topping the list.  

Finally, the electoral campaign in Madagascar has barely begun but the process is already facing heavy criticism by opponents and civil society. The press has recently revealed that the outgoing President Andry Rajoelina is a French citizen. Despite the law requiring him to surrender his Madagascan nationality and banning him from running for president, the High Constitutional Court of Madagascar has ruled in his favour. Meanwhile the President of the Senate, who should be stepping in as acting president of the Republic, has declined the responsibility for "personal reasons", leading the Court to hand power over to the government. This unprecedented situation in Madagascar is leading to a political crisis
