ASUS takes wraps off ROG Phone 6 series for gamers

ASUS has launched its new ROG Phone 6 series of gaming smartphones with an array of features that make it the world’s most powerful handset.

It’s the first smartphone to the Irish market powered by the latest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 Mobile Platform chip.

It’s also the first ROG device sporting a 165Hz refresh rate display – matching the refresh rate of Nubia’s RedMagic gaming phones.

And ROG Phone 6 series introduces a 720Hz touch sampling rate which reduces latency and ensures every tap and swipe is as responsive as possible. This feature was also introduced last year by RedMagic.

Elsewhere, the new gaming powerhouse includes a dazzling 6.78in AMOLED HDR 10+ display.

The phones come with up to 18GB of the fastest LPDDR5 RAM along with 512GB of onboard storage.

And there is a monster 6000 mAh battery on board – yet the phone still feels light and comfortable to hold.

For even more advanced game control, the firm’s AirTrigger 6 system has been significantly upgraded.

These ultrasonic sensors fully support various gestures, including new features such as Dual Action, Press and Lift along with Gyroscope Aiming.

The GameFX audio system on ROG Phone 6 features symmetrical seven-magnet dual speakers that fire forward for truly balanced stereo sound effects.

Unlike most modern flagships, there is a convenient 3.5mm headphone jack for superior quality and immersive wired audio.

The impressive audio system has been optimised in collaboration with the Swedish digital audio pioneer Dirac.

Gaming phones are not renowned for having great cameras, but ROG Phone 6 series hopes to address this with its triple-camera system that features a flagship Sony IMX766 50 MP main wide-angle camera with improved image quality and HDR processing, an ultrawide 13MP second camera, and a macro camera.

Enhanced software features include HDR10+ Video Mode, and there’s also a 12MP front camera for high-quality group selfies and live-streaming videos.

The firm has also introduced an extensive array of modular accessories to enhance the mobile gaming experience including an updated AeroActive Cooler 6.

Optional accessories include the ROG Kunai 3 Gamepad, ROG Cetra True Wireless Pro and True Wireless gaming headphones, ROG Delta S Wireless and Delta S Core gaming headsets.

The phone comes with a pre-installed glass screen protector.

Pricing and availability

ASUS ROG Phone 6 is available in Phantom Black and Storm White and comes equipped with Aura RGB lighting on the back. It costs €999 for 256GB storage and 12GB RAM or €1149 for 512GB storage and 16 GB of RAM.

ASUS ROG Phone 6 Pro is available exclusively in Storm White and features a colour ROG Vision mini-display on the back. It costs €1299 for 512GB storage and 18 GB of RAM.
