An upcoming update for PlayStation's highly popular Astro Bot game will add a new speedrun level as well as new special bots.
The update will be the first that Sony and Team Asobi will release in a series of five new content drops that will come once a week. The first one, which comes on Oct. 17, 2024, is known as the "Building Speed" speedrun level.
Astro Bot Update
Team Asobi studio director Nicolas Doucet said that the new levels will test players' platforming skills.
He added in a blog post that the updates will come alongside an online leaderboard where people can show off their achievements. This also lets you compete against friends.
Doucet added that in the Building Sped update, you will be helped by Barkster, the bulldog booster, so that you can blast your way through a sky-high city.
You will have to dodge and smash various objects such as cranes and speed through a flying car wash on your way, according to Gematsu.
PlayStation is taking a rather novel approach to how it introduces new DLC to Astro Bot. The studio just shadow-dropped its downloadable content without much of an announcement days or weeks before the launch.
The new bots that are included in the series of updates are the Stellar Blade and Helldivers bots. However, Team Asobi is currently keeping silent about the other special bots that will be introduced into the game, The Verge said.
The studio also revealed the names of the other updates that will be coming every week to Astro Bot. These are the Let It Slide, Spring-loaded Run, Helium Heights, and Rising Heat updates.
New Speedrun Levels and Special Bots
A total of 10 new special bots will be added to the game, with two coming with each weekly update for Astro Bot. Team Asobi also noted that all of the new content will be available to players who own the game at no extra cost.
The studio continued to express its gratitude to fans of Astro Bot for their continued love and support for the game since it was released.
Team Asobi also teased that there could be more surprises coming to the game sometime in the future, according to the PlayStation Blog.
In order to access the upcoming new speedrun levels in Astro Bot, players will first have to complete the game's main story. If you want to play the speedrun levels, you should ignore the secret exits and just get back to them later.
