Aston Villa transfer news: Steven Gerrard open to offers for five players

Aston Villa recorded their first win of the season at home to Everton as Steven Gerrard's men got their season up and running after a shock opening loss at Bournemouth.

Villa completed plenty of early business in the window, sealing deals for Boubacar Kamara and £26million Diego Carlos as well as permanent transfers for Philippe Coutinho and Robin Olsen. Left-back Ludwig Augustinsson became the fifth signing of the window when he joined on loan from Sevilla but now Villa look set to change their transfer plans in the wake of Carlos' devastating injury.

The Brazilian, 29, came off in the closing stages of the win over Everton and scans have since confirmed the ace has a ruptured Achilles and is set for surgery and a lengthy spell on the sidelines. Here Mirror Sport takes a look at the latest transfer news and rumours.

Five players up for grabs

Villa are reportedly welcoming 'offers' for a number of players including Zimbabwean international Marvelous Nakamba according to to The Athletic. They say Nakamba joins Frederic Guilbert, Anwar El Ghazi, Bertrand Traore and Keinan Davis - who has joined Watford on loan - on a list of players that the hierarchy at the club would welcome 'offers' for ahead of the end of the summer transfer window closing on September 1st. Nakamba, 28, featured heavily after Gerrard was appointed to the role of Villa boss last November. The midfielder started all five of his first games in charge of the club, before being forced off after 57 minutes against Liverpool due to a severe knee injury. Nakamba would go on to make his return to action five months later but he has since been usurped at Villa Park following the arrival of summer signing Kamara.

Villa to placate Buendia

Emiliano Buendia is desperate to star in the Premier League this season as he bids to go to the World Cup this winter with Argentina but the fiery South American's prospects are not being helped by Gerrard using him off the bench in Villa's first two matches. It was the same last season regularly after the January signing of Philippe Coutinho , even if the Brazilian's form did not always warrant a start. Mirror Sport understands Villa's £33million record signing, who joined from Norwich last summer, has been assured of game-time by Gerrard amid fears among some fans the star could push for a move to enhance his World Cup dream as some other players have done elsewhere like Conor Coady. Speaking after Buendia came off the bench to score the winner against Everton, Gerrard said: "We put him on against Everton when the team needed energy and quality and he delivered. Nobody is a bigger fan of Emi Buendia than me."

Question marks over Mings

Despite Villa's problems defensive following Carlos' injury Give Me Sport claim that West Ham are considering a move for Tyrone Mings amid speculation over his future at Aston Villa. The England international was stripped of the captaincy by Steven Gerrard ahead of this season. He was an unused sub at Bournemouth following an injury but Mings was excellent returning on Saturday as Villa beat Everton. Yet the outlet claim that West Ham are monitoring the 29-year-old’s situation.
