The wife of Boubacar Kamara said she didn’t know whether to laugh or cry after their honeymoon was cancelled by the Aston Villa midfielder being called up for international duty.
Kamara enjoyed an impressive debut season for Villa following a free transfer from Marseille last summer. But once the season was over, he and his wife Coralie Porrovecchio were hoping to jet off on honeymoon after getting married at the start of June.
That all appeared to be on course on Sunday, only for a phone call to ruin their plans. Kamara was called up to replace the injured Adrien Rabiot in France’s squad for the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers against Gibraltar and Greece.
The reaction was detailed by Porrovecchio, who shared her reaction with her two million Instagram followers. Writing in French, the model said: “I don’t know if to laugh or cry” at the news.
In a video on her Instagram stories, she then explained they were supposed to be flying out from Marseille to Paris and then on for a Honeymoon together, only for Kamara to turn around and head to join up with Les Bleus’ squad at Clairefontaine instead.
Her caption read: “Honeymoon postponed. The hazards of the lives of the wives of footballers that you so envy…” alongside a cash emoji.
In further posts, Porrovecchio joked that her evening at the airport was like something out of a film and by Monday afternoon she was back at home looking after the couple’s two children, Leeroy and Kingsley.
“We were on our way to our honeymoon,” she said. “We were supposed to arrive in Paris tonight and leave tomorrow morning.
“Except that there was a little bit of unexpected news, because Boubacar was called up to the France team. So we had to get off the plane, pick up the suitcases, and here we are back in Marseille. Trip postponed for a good cause, but that’s that.”
Porrovecchio was a finalist in a Miss Belgium beauty contest and appeared in a TV reality show called Secret Story. Her Instagram account documents her work as a model, but also her family life with Kamara and their two kids.
Kamara has already earned three caps for France, but he missed the World Cup in Qatar last year due to a knee injury. He was eligible to represent Senegal, due to family heritage, but chose to represent his homeland of France.
