Aston Villa are reportedly prepared for further transfer interest in midfielder John McGinn in this summer’s transfer window.
The Scottish midfielder, who has previously been linked with interest from Tottenham Hotspur, is on Spurs’ radar according to the Daily Mail with The Telegraph reporting that of the six signings Antonio Conte wants to make this summer, two of them are for new midfielders.
The Mail’s report claims that Spurs have lined up a move to sign the Scottish international, as well as Christian Eriksen, who is currently at Brentford following a six-and-a-half year spell at Spurs before leaving for Inter Milan in January 2020.
Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse has also been linked with a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and like McGinn, would tick off part of the home-grown quota that clubs must fulfil when submitting their squads for the Premier League season.
Villa are believed to be unwilling to sanction the sale of another one of their key players just a year after selling Jack Grealish to Manchester City for a British record transfer fee of £100million.
McGinn has spent the past four seasons at Villa Park after leaving Hibernian in the summer of 2018. Since his arrival at Villa, McGinn has played in 144 of the Claret and Blues’ 163 league games across the Premier League and Championship, scoring 16 goals in the league.

In total, the Scottish midfielder has played 148 times in all competitions and in that time has helped Villa get promoted via the Championship play-offs and keep them in the Premier League in each of the three seasons since.
Tottenham are expected to have a big summer transfer window as Antonio Conte looks to overhaul his squad in north London. He is expected to complete the permanent signing of Dejan Kulusevski from Juventus after his starring role on loan in the second half of last season.
Inter Milan centre-back Alessandro Bastoni has also been linked with interest from Spurs having worked under Conte at the San Siro during Inter’s 2020/21 Serie A title win.
Tottenham will be back playing Champions League football next season after clinching fourth place in the Premier League table and Conte is aware his squad needs strengthening to cope with the demands of the competition amid what will be a busier schedule.
Already Spurs have moved to land Ivan Perisic on a free transfer from Inter Milan, as well as goalkeeper Fraser Forster from Southampton. Tottenham also announced a £150million cash injection into the club at the end of the season, with more transfers likely in the coming weeks and months.
