'Assassin's Creed Hexe' Leak Reveals First Look at Setting That Plays a Huge Role in the Story

"Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced" was recently released, but there is no rest for fans of the franchise as a new leak now details the next-generation "AC" game.

'Assassin's Creed Hexe' Leak Unveils Game's Setting

The leak comes from a leaker known as Rogue I Tx, who has previously shared media and details on several other Ubisoft titles. This time, the leaker posted what appears to be an early in-game image of a cathedral from "Assassin's Creed Hexe" on X, claiming the building plays a significant role in the story.

The structure shown is a Gothic cathedral, which lines up with earlier rumors suggesting the game takes place somewhere in Europe. Based on the architectural style, the cathedral appears to reflect German Gothic design, pointing to a possible setting in Germany or a nearby region.

Some have speculated the location could resemble cities like Nuremberg, Cologne, Prague, or Vienna, though nothing has been confirmed as of press time.

"Assassin's Creed Hexe" was originally announced back in 2022, but Ubisoft has not shared any official details since, leaving fans to rely on rumors and leaks for information about the game.

'Hexe' Setting Is Directly Tied to Game's Story

According to ComicBook Gaming, previous rumors have suggested that "Assassin's Creed Hexe" centers around the European witch hunts, a period that spanned several centuries. Early prosecutions began around 1450 and continued into the 1700s, though activity slowed significantly after that point.

Within the broader German region, the witch trials reached their peak between 1626 and 1631, during the Bamberg and Würzburg witch trials. These are considered among the deadliest witch hunts in European history, with hundreds of executions recorded across both areas.

Piecing together the setting shown in the leak with these historical details suggests "Assassin's Creed Hexe" could take place during this period, potentially in or around Bamberg or Würzburg specifically, though this remains speculation for now.

'Assassin's Creed' Is Going Back to a Beloved Setting

A European setting would put "Assassin's Creed Hexe" in familiar territory for the franchise. Europe has long been central to the series, most notably through "Assassin's Creed II," which introduced Ezio Auditore da Firenze and took players through Renaissance-era Italy.

That entry is widely regarded as one of the most beloved games in the franchise, helping cement "Assassin's Creed" as one of gaming's biggest series.

Since then, the franchise has explored a range of locations outside Europe, including Egypt, Greece, and feudal Japan in more recent entries.

A return to a European setting, especially one focused on a darker chapter like the witch hunts, would mark a tonal shift for the series while still tapping into the historical storytelling that helped define its earlier and most celebrated games.
