Ubisoft has revealed Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, an expansive remake of the fourth Assassin's Creed game.
Developed by Skull and Bones studio Ubisoft Singapore, the iconic title has been completely rebuilt using the latest version of the company's Anvil game engine. It features a wholly reworked combat system that sees protagonist Edward Kenway wielding dual swords, pistols, and the iconic hidden blade.
It's been designed with speed and fluidity in mind, looking like a cross between the fights of the original Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag and those in last year's Assassin's Creed Shadows.
Parkour has been improved, too, with more reactive moves that should make jumping around the environments look and feel considerably smoother.
Stealth was another area of focus, and players will finally be able to crouch freely to sneak around undetected. Those infamously frustrating tailing and eavesdropping missions have been revamped, too, removing the instant 'game over' screens and replacing them with new target reactions that force players to adapt their approach.
In the reveal trailer, game director Richard Knight explained that the goal is to "deliver a faithful and enriched experience grounded in what players loved" from the original game.
"Every single small moment of the game had to be rebuilt and crafted," said creative director Paul Fu. "It took a lot of handcrafting, especially the facial animations but that's important because that's the soul of the game."
"No remake would be complete without additional content," he continued, revealing that the remake will feature "brand new chapters and brand new missions."
He also explained that the team has "never approach Resynced as a reinvention" and the team is eager to keep."
Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced is set to launch on July 9, 2026.
