Asmir Begovic a Rangers transfer 'target' as Allan McGregor succession planning intensifies

Asmir Begovic is reportedly a summer transfer target for Rangers.

The Everton keeper is very much second fiddle to Jordan Pickford at Goodison and is out of contract at the end of the season. The experienced keeper joined the Toffees in 2021 after leaving Bournemouth and looks likely to move on when his deal on Merseyside expires.

Now journalist Alex Crook claims that Rangers want to sign Begovic in the summer. Michael Beale insists he doesn’t need to worry about the goalkeeping position at Ibrox, with Allan McGregor and Jon McLaughlin number one and number two ahead of third choice Robby McCrorie. But McGregor could retire at the end of the season after opting to pen a one-year extension in the summer and play on past the age of 41. McLaughlin is still under contract until 2024, but a new number one will be a priority should McGregor decide to call time on his career.
