Aslan star Billy McGuinness has said the band is set to have a “big year” as they will play Dublin 3Arena for the first time ever as part of their 40th anniversary tour.
Aslan celebrate 40 years together and as part of their anniversary celebrations, they have announced a 19-date tour of Ireland, including a show in Dublin’s 3Arena this September.
The Dublin rockers will play the 3Arena for the first time ever on September 17.
Billy, who is appearing on Rte’s Dancing With The Stars, said: “Aslan are 40 years together this year and this month we were to start our 40 years, 40 gigs tour of which the Dublin date is the 3Arena on September 17.
“This is our big year. We’re going to go everywhere. MCD will promote the 40 gigs tour and they’re putting us into some really nice venues. The 3Arena is the biggest one. We’ve never played the 3Arena. It’ll be the biggest gig Aslan has played.
“We did it when it was the Point Depot. You’re talking 1999/2000 but when we did the Point, the capacity was 8,0000. Now the 3Arena is 15,000.”
Lead singer Christy Dignam said: "It's hard to believe that when we formed Aslan back in 1982, we said we would give it a year, and here we are 40 years later about to play the prestigious venue that is 3Arena for the first time and embark on our 40 Years 40 Gigs tour.
"The gig in 3Arena will be the gig of our career and we are pulling out all stops to make it an unforgettable night for all our fans who have supported us and kept us going through the good and bad times."
Over the course of their almost 40-year music career, Aslan have had numerous chart successes, toured the world, broken up, made up and released classic songs such as This Is and Crazy World.
Tickets for 3Arena cost from €49.50 including booking fees and are available now via Ticketmaster.ie.
