Aslan assure fans Christy Dignam is 'doing great' following gig cancellations

Veteran rockers Aslan have assured fans frontman Christy Dignam is “doing great” after they axed a third gig in the space of a week.

The band cancelled their gig in Galway scheduled for July 30 – just days after they were forced to reschedule live performances in Kilkenny and Ballycotton.

Their tour celebrating 40 years has been disrupted as singer Christy, 61, takes a break on doctor’s orders.

The Dubliner suffers from rare blood cancer amyloidosis and is getting chemotherapy once a week in his battle against the terminal disease.

Aslan guitarist Billy McGuinness posted a video assuring fans they would be back on the road as soon as Christy gets the nod. He said: “We’re really, really sorry, we don’t like cancelling gigs but with Christy’s health everything else comes second, his health comes first.

“Christy’s doing great... he’s undergoing a new treatment of chemo at the moment and on medical advice we’ve been asked to give him a couple of weeks off.

“So as soon as he’s well enough, you know Christy, he’s gonna want to be back gigging. He loves gigging.

“Thanks for all your messages of support it really means a lot to Christy. As soon as he’s well enough we’ll be back on the road.

“We’ll see yiz in the 3Arena on 17 September which is just gonna be amazing. More updates to follow.”

Christy has spoken of his health struggle in the past.
