NEW DELHI: Entering the tournament as favourites, the Indian women's hockey team faced an unexpected setback in the semis but bounced back strongly on Saturday to earn a 2-1 win over defending champions Japan to clinch the bronze medal at the Asian Games in Hangzhou.
Ranked seventh in the world, the women's team was heavily favored to bag a gold, however, a disappointing performance on Thursday saw them suffer a 4-0 defeat at the hands of the hosts China.
