The Indian women's hockey team began its campaign with a glut of goals, registering a 13-0 win over Singapore. The lopsided encounter was marked by India's attacking game against their hapless opponents.
After a couple of missed opportunities, Udita put India ahead in the sixth minute when she flicked in a penalty corner. Two minutes later India were awarded a penalty stroke after a Singapore defender dived in front of the ball inside the circle. Although not her best attempt, Sushila Chanu put the ball into the right corner of the post.
