Asda workmates pay tribute to 'popular colleague', 19, killed in horror crash

Asda colleagues have said they are "going to miss very much" a 19-year-old fellow worker who tragically was killed in a car crash.

Grace Wheatley, from Cleethorpes, died at the scene of a two-car crash on the A631 near Louth on the evening of Tuesday August 9, while two other men were seriously hurt.

Floral tributes have been placed at the roadside where the crash took place, reported GrimsbyLive.

Grace worked for Asda at the main Holles Street store in Grimsby and was a much-loved member of staff.

Brian Boyle, General Store Manager at Asda Grimsby said: "We have a close-knit group of colleagues at Asda Grimsby, so the news has had a big impact on everyone here. Grace was such a popular colleague who is going to be sorely missed by both colleagues and customers. Our thoughts go out to Grace’s family at this unimaginable time – we’re going to miss her very much."

Earlier this week, her family issued a statement through Lincolnshire Police saying they had lost a "beautiful soul".

The message said: "There are things in life you can never be prepared for, last week we lost our beautiful daughter Grace in a collision. Words cannot describe how heartbroken we are as a family.

“We feel lucky for the time we got to spend with you on this earth; nothing will replace the hole you’ve left. You truly will be in our hearts and minds for every moment of our lives.

“We’re so proud of the unique, caring, loving, funny young woman you became. A beautiful girl with a beautiful mind, and a beautiful soul.”

Friends left flowers at the junction where the crash happened, with one tribute saying: "You never knew your true beauty or potential. The world has lost a pure treasure. Wishing you peace, we love you with all our hearts."

Another said: "Grace, beautiful girl. You will be missed. Rest in peace on that beach somewhere nice." A friend posted: "Thank you for giving me my favourite memories. Thank you for letting me be my true self with you. Thank you for letting me be vulnerable with you. Thank you for being my best friend."

Two men in the back seat, one of them Grace's boyfriend, were taken to hospital, both with life-threatening injuries.

Lincolnshire Police are continuing to investigate the collision around 7.50pm on August 9 and an inquest will be opened soon.
