Asda shoppers left 'appalled' at new rules surrounding Just Essentials range

Popular supermarket Asda has come under extreme backlash from angry shoppers, after they introduced new rules to their own-brand range.

Just a couple of weeks back, the Just Essentials range was being praised by shoppers for its budget-friendly prices. As reported by Manchester Evening News, they have now left a sour taste in the mouth of many households.

The newest rule limits the amount of items people can buy from the Just Essentials range. Under the new regulations, shoppers are only allowed to buy a maximum of three of each item per supermarket visit.

Signs have been placed around various Asda stores dictating the new rules. The signs read: "We love that you love Just Essentials and we're working hard to keep up with demand. To help make sure customers can get what they need, we're limiting purchases to 3 of each product per customer for a short time."

One shopper spotted this sign and shared it to her followers on Facebook, stating: "Just to let people know Asda have put limits on the amount of each product of the yellow labels you can buy."

Shoppers fumed and flocked to the comments to have their opinions heard. One Facebook user wrote: "That's all good to stop people stockpiling but when you have a family of 7 and can only do a monthly shop, its very unhelpful and has now stopped me shopping at asda because i cant get what we need!!"

Another said: "I buy these in a weekly shop for my elderly mother-in-law with dementia as it’s easier for carers and her budget. Get your act together Asda and think of the elderly, vulnerable and those on a tight budget. I’m actually appalled with Asda for this but not surprised."

And a third wrote: "Only issue this creates is when you have a large family, you cannot buy what you need. Means I would need to do 2 separate shops or take hubby shopping with me so he had 1 trolley and I had another as we are a family of 5, with 3 teenage children.

"And we do monthly food shopping. And taking hubby shopping just creates more stress because he will chuck non listed stuff in and cost me a fortune lol which means I will have to do 2 lots of shopping over 2 days (it's a bit of a trek in the car to do twice in 1 day)."

However, some people were in agreement with the new regime. One wrote: "I know it’s annoying but I think it will settle down once Asda have data on how much the need to keep up with demand."

Another simply said: "Sensible." More noted: "They have put the restriction on so its fair for everyone. It's because of stock availability and nothing to do with anything else."

An ASDA spokesperson told Manchester Evening News: "Just Essentials is proving really popular at the moment and we’re working hard to get the out of stock products back on the shelves as quickly as we can.

"To make sure as many customers as possible can buy these products we are temporarily limiting purchases to a maximum of three of each product.

"This will be for a short period and we will let you know as soon these limits are removed. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause."
