Everyone loves a bargain and that shows when supermarkets roll out their yellow reduction stickers at the end of the day.
However, knowing exactly when those reductions will take place is becoming less luck and more about timing.
Some supermarkets, it seems, have specific times that they start their reductions.
As shoppers across the UK find new ways to watch the pennies as everyday items increase, looking out for reduction stickers is a good way to save money on your big shop.
Looking into ways to cut costs, loans, credit card and mortgages company Ocean Finance has issued a number of tips to feed your family for less - including the best times to visit Asda, Sainsbury's and other supermarkets to grab "yellow sticker" bargains.
Food items are often reduced throughout the day, but there are better times to shop if you want to make some big savings, reported Liverpool Echo.
These are the specific times to visit supermarkets to bag a bargain:
- M&S – An hour before closing
- Morrisons – 6pm
- Sainsbury’s – 6pm
- Asda – 7pm
- Waitrose – 6pm
Other ways to save were highlighted by the Money Advice Service, who said that people who make a list are three times less likely to overspend than those who don’t.
Get your pen and paper out (or use your phone) and jot down everything you need for the week ahead.
Plan it down to a tee, including ingredients for each meal you plan to cook. It’s important to stick to your list and avoid throwing in any extras, to avoid splurging.
Ditching brand name items could also save you some pounds.
We all have our favourite brands.
But with the likes of Aldi winning awards for their own alcohol, grocery, and baby ranges, it could be worth making the switch.
In 2021, Which? revealed Aldi as the cheapest supermarket of the year, with a basket of 22 branded and unbranded goods costing £24.03.
Experts also suggest shopping on a full stomach.
If your stomach’s rumbling, there’s a high chance you’ll give in to the hunger pangs and chuck some tempting treats in the trolley.
Of course, it’s fine to treat yourself, but try to factor them in on your list, to curb impulse buying.
