Asda rolls out scheme that sees you get cash pot for completing 'missions'

Asda has today announced it will extend its ‘Asda Rewards’ loyalty app trial to customers in 48 stores following the success of its initial 16 store trial. The supermarket is extending the trial to customers in all 32 of its West Yorkshire stores, along with four stores in the North East and four stores in central Scotland. The trial will also continue in the existing eight stores in Birmingham.

Customers in these stores will be able to download and scan the Asda Rewards app on their smartphones from today and begin to build up their ‘Cashpot’. The extension of the trial follows a successful launch at stores in West Yorkshire and Birmingham last October. Since launching more than 90,000 customers have downloaded the app and 50,000 are using it on a regular basis. Customers in the trial stores have built up over £800k in their Cashpots, which they can turn into vouchers to spend in store.

Customers using the app can earn rewards when buying selected branded and Asda own-label products, including many core everyday grocery lines along with household cleaning and pet products. Shoppers will also be able to add to their cash pot by completing in-app missions, such as buying five fruit and veg items to unlock their ‘5 a day badge’. Asda has developed the missions throughout the trial to make them seasonally relevant. This month, customers can complete the ‘Mother’s Day Flowers’ mission, where they can buy a bunch of flowers for £10 and receive £1 in their Cashpots. So far, Asda customers have completed over 200,000 missions across the trial stores.

Customers will see their Cashpot build in the app as they shop and they can redeem their cash whenever they choose by creating a voucher with the money they have saved. This can then be used on their next shop or saved up to pay for a full shop in the future.

Matt Mclellan, Vice President Customer Proposition & Planning, said: “We are really pleased that customers in our trial stores are benefiting from the Asda Rewards app and we’re excited that from today, 32 more stores will be taking part across different areas of the UK, as we continue to evolve the program”
