Supermarket shoppers have been left bewildered after finding a 21-year-old ASDA receipt from 2001. Everyone knows that, at the moment, prices continue to rise across the board.
But it may make you feel sick to your stomach when you see JUST how much more we are paying for our shopping now than we were in 2001.
The receipt was shared on popular website Reddit. Posting on the platform user u/MooMooMills1 posted an ASDA receipt from 2001.

The receipt shows a number of items included vinegar for just 17p, eggs for just 99p and two lots of white baps for just 49p each. The post received more than 6,000 upvotes and commenters couldn't believe just how much certain items had risen in price. But some other Redditors also found other trends in the receipt, says Birmingham Live.
FlamingoDingoRingo said: "So weird how some things have barely shifted in price and other things are legit about 8 times more expensive now."
One user replied: "A lot of stuff has shrunk, though. So while some things may be the same price, sweets and wrapped goods will often be smaller now than they were then. Shrinkflation probably doesn't apply to eggs though".
Another user added: "Eggs surprised me, 99p on OPs receipt. I just paid £1:45 for 6 at the corner shop" and one user said: "All that now is pushing £40"
Food inflation had recently surged to more than 12 per cent according to figures released yesterday. The British Retail Consortium said Coffee prices “shot up” as high input costs filtered through to price tags.
