Asda issues update to customers about its Rewards app loyalty scheme

Asda has issued an alert to customers after making changes to its Rewards app.

The big four supermarket chain sent an email out to customers this week telling them that some users may have been logged out of their Asda Rewards App.

If they had, they would need to re-enter their login details to gain access to their account and their Cashpots.

The reason for this was that Asda had made some updates to the app.

Companies often update their apps and websites to address technical glitches or bugs in their systems.

Asda's recent update dealt with a bug in its multi-factor authentication system.

Before the update, users were reporting that the multi-factor authentication screen was appearing at the wrong time after signing in.

The email to Asda customers read: "We’ve made some updates to our app which means that you may need to log back into Asda Rewards.

"We’re contacting you on the email address you used to sign up to Asda Rewards, so please use this to log back in

"If you have forgotten your password, please tap 'Forgotten password' when prompted on the app sign-in page, then sign back into Asda Rewards."

However, some Asda customers reported having trouble re-logging back into their Rewards app yesterday.

According to Downdetector, which is a website which detects outages, the number of reported outages for the app and website hit a peak of 700 between 3pm and 4pm.

Around 68% of problems were about the app and 28% were about the website.

However, Asda has not issued a response to the reported outage - the number of reported outages has dropped to only 15 at 9am this morning.

What is Asda Rewards?

Asda's Rewards App has become widely popular with shoppers with around four million people using the app every month.

First launched last year, Asda Rewards is an app-based loyalty scheme that allows customers to build up "pounds" in a "cashpot".

The money saved up can then be used to create vouchers that can be spent in Asda supermarkets.

Shoppers can make a voucher with as little as £1, with the maximum voucher amount at £100.

To build up the points, all you need to do is scan your Asda app at the till when you shop.

If you are an online shopper, you can connect your Asda Rewards app to your online account and build up the points that way.

You can redeem your Cashpot whenever you choose by creating a voucher in the app with the money you have saved.
