Asda customers charged TWICE extra for food shop they did two months ago

Asda customers say they have been charged multiple times for a shop that they did months ago.

A handful of customers at the supermarket chain's Wakefield store report multiple payments taken from their account - but to make the story more bizarre - the duplicate payments were from different Asda store.

Some people report seeing the extra charges originate from Asda's Lancaster store, from its Shoeburyness site, and its South-end-on-Sea store.

To make the situation even more frustrating, for some, it is the third time they have made the same payment.

One Twitter @Harrietnews user shared that their boyfriend had been charged again on May 2 for a £66 shop they had done on March 5 at the Wakefield store.

She said: "My boyfriend has just been overcharged AGAIN for a £66 shop done and paid for on March 5 in Wakefield - first extra charge came in April 5 and again today May 5 - how long will it take for money to come back and why does it keep happening?"

Another user @bensowerby tweeted the supermarket: "@AsdaServiceTeam it's happened again. Taking money out of people's accounts AGAIN that shouldn't have been taken out.

"This time a transaction that has been done in Wakefield in March has come out of your Middlesbrough store today 2nd of May. This is Fraud!!!"

Other shoppers claimed to be down several hundred pounds.

One Asda shopper, Kelly Bainbridge, told the Wakefield Express that she had made three payments of £132.04 each month for the last three months and that she was unable to get "sense out of anyone.”

The supermarket's Twitter support team have confirmed that it was "aware of the issue" and said its team was "working fast" to get the money back to people.

Asda has told the Mirror that this problem had originated from the Wakefield Asda store only and the multiple payments were down to a "technical issue" - however it does explain much more than that.

Asda also confirmed that it had issued refunds to all those affected and people would get this within 10 days of it being issued.

It also said no customer would be "out of pocket" because of the issue.

An Asda spokesperson told the Mirror: "Due to a technical issue, some customers that shopped at our Wakefield store on 5th March were charged more than once.

"As soon as we became aware of this issue we immediately reversed these charges. We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused."

If you have also been affected by this issue, then you should contact Asda's customer service team either by email at customer.services@asda.co.uk, over the phone on 0800 952 0101 or through their Twitter support team.
