Asda is introducing a change to its UK stores that will impact every customer from Thursday, September 1, 2022. The move follows similar changes announced by Marks and Spencer and Morrisons.
The supermarket issued advanced warning to Nottinghamshire customers saying that it will be axing 'best before' dates on 250 fruit and veg items. Asda will leave the dates off produce including citrus fruits, potatoes, cauliflowers and carrots.
Andy Cockshaw, who is Asda head of technical, said: “Reducing food waste in our business and in customers’ homes is a priority and we are always looking at different ways to achieve this We know for customers this has become more important than ever in the current climate as many families are struggling with the cost-of-living crisis and are looking to make savings wherever they can.”
