Harrogate Spring Water has teamed up with wellbeing advocate Dr Alex George and celebrity bartender Merlin Griffiths to launch Royal Ascot’s first ever reduced and no alcohol bar as part of Harrogate Spring Water’s initiative to encourage mindful drinking.
Harrogate Spring Water commissioned a nationwide survey in May to understand how people are approaching drinking alcohol post-pandemic. 38% of those surveyed said they are choosing to be mindful when it comes to drinking alcohol and 24% have already consciously cut down their intake.
Harrogate Spring Water has launched a new dedicated platform to inspire and encourage people to make the most of their experiences, including expert tips and tricks from Dr Alex George.
Dr Alex George said: “Harrogate’s mission is an incredible initiative. Encouraging people to take a mindful approach to drinking is key to looking after ourselves and making the most of our experiences. It’s interesting that a sixth of those polled said that not being fully present at past events from drinking too much alcohol had influenced them to be more mindful with their intake now. Over a quarter of people noticed that by cutting down their intake they have better memory of their experiences, so you really don’t need much more incentive to give it a try! I’m thrilled to team up with the inspiring Merlin Griffiths to launch Harrogate’s Mindful Drinking Bar at Royal Ascot to encourage racegoers to drink mindfully throughout their day with his delicious new non-alcoholic cocktail.”
Named the ‘Jubilee Spritz’, renowned mixologist Merlin Griffiths has created his exclusive non-alcoholic cocktail for Harrogate’s Mindful Drinking Bar at Royal Ascot. Featuring Harrogate Sparkling Water, the non-alcoholic cocktail includes touches of lavender, reminiscent of the rolling Yorkshire countryside, combined with aromatic CleanCo G 0% botanical spirit, complimented by a touch of fresh lemon juice for a refreshing taste.
Merlin Griffiths said: “It was such an exciting opportunity to partner with Harrogate on launching Royal Ascot’s first ever Mindful Drinking Bar! I wanted to design a non-alcoholic cocktail that was flavourful, alive with lavender, lemon and a good dose of Harrogate sparkling water, and that really drew on the heritage of this longstanding British brand. Whatever your reason I truly believe that a mindful approach to drinking is a brilliant way to continue making your memories whilst drinking life in.”
Richard Hall, Managing Director at Harrogate Spring Water, said: “Our survey clearly shows how adults really are being more mindful about their alcohol intake post-lockdown as they now focus on creating memories from their experiences. With that in mind, it’s such a joy to bring people together to connect again at Royal Ascot as we encourage racegoers to make the most of their celebrations. We’re particularly excited this year to also have Dr Alex George on board to help us drive our Mindful Drinking Mission alongside Merlin Griffiths who has designed a fantastic non-alcoholic cocktail containing Harrogate Spring Water exclusively for our first reduced and no alcohol bar!”
Jonathan Parker, Managing Director of 1711 by Ascot, added: “Customer feedback shows us that there is an increasing desire for reduced and low alcohol options. We’re delighted to have worked with the Harrogate team to bring this Mindful Drinking Bar to life and provide our Queen Anne Enclosure customers with a dedicated area to soak in the atmosphere of Royal Ascot while enjoying a Jubilee Spritz.”
As part of Harrogate’s commitments to improve recycling, Harrogate is encouraging racegoers to ‘Twist it. Cap it. Recycle it’. Through a joint closed loop recycling initiative with Ascot Racecourse, all PET plastic bottles collected will be recycled to produce new bottles, creating a circular system. Currently all Harrogate bottles are made using 51% recycled plastic
