Leeds United attacker Sam Greenwood has hailed Jesse Marsch’s ‘positivity’ as a major factor behind the Whites’ Premier League survival this season. The Whites secured safety on a dramatic final day of action with a 2-1 win over Brentford – moving ahead of Burnley who were defeated by Newcastle United at Turf Moor.
Marsch first arrived at Leeds at the end of February with their form in free fall. Leeds had suffered five defeats in six matches, conceding 21 goals in the process, which brought an unfortunate end to Marcelo Bielsa’s tenure at Elland Road.
Leeds’ losing run continued in Marsch’s first two games in charge, but a five-match unbeaten run followed which put the Whites on the brink of safety. But an unforeseen surge in results from both Everton and Burnley, coupled with a very difficult run of fixtures for Leeds, meant destiny was very much out of their hands in the final two weeks of the season.

However, Marsch never allowed his belief and positivity to dwindle, which has helped Leeds get over the line. Greenwood – who has been given a greater first-team role since Marsch’s arrival – believes the American’s attitude has been vital in recent weeks and is looking forward to getting to grips with his system more and more.
Speaking to talkSPORT, he said: “I think his positivity is the best I’ve ever seen, even when we’re in difficult situations he’s just so positive. He’s a great guy with everyone and so nice, everyone gets on with him and he’s an unbelievable coach and his training sessions are top.
“I think the way we’re playing is great as well, once we get the hang of it properly. Obviously there’s still more to improve on but other than that, I think it’s going to work well.”
