ASAP Rocky Faces Backlash For New Single Referencing Taylor Swift

ASAP Rocky facing backlash for using Taylor Swift's name for 'clout' in new song

Taylor Swift fans have expressed their disappointment towards ASAP Rocky following the release of his latest single 'Tailor Swif'. Fans accused the rapper of using Swift's name for attention, labeling him as a 'clout chaser'. The track was initially leaked online after being previewed during his performance at Rolling Loud Portugal in 2022. The official release of the single, which is part of his upcoming album 'Don't Be Dumb', has stirred reactions among Swifties globally.

ASAP Rocky shared the single artwork on Twitter/X on August 30, prompting swift backlash from fans. Some fans criticized the rapper for using Taylor Swift's name for publicity, while others questioned why male rappers seem to frequently target Swift in their music.

The song's lyrics only lightly touch on Swift in the chorus, with lines like 'I'm too swift, don't tell Taylor 'bout this s***...Got to my tailor, got me dripped up in the district'. The release of 'Don't Be Dumb' was initially scheduled for August but faced delays due to leaks and sample clearance issues. ASAP Rocky apologized to fans for the delay, expressing his desire to create the best album possible after a six-year hiatus.

This isn't the first instance of a rapper referencing Taylor Swift in their music. In 2023, Drake mentioned Swift in the song 'Red Button', while Kanye West famously sparked controversy in 2016 with his track 'Famous', where he made derogatory remarks about Swift.

It's evident that the use of Taylor Swift's name in music continues to generate attention and controversy within the industry. Fans remain divided on the appropriateness of referencing Swift in songs, with some viewing it as a ploy for publicity while others see it as a form of artistic expression.
