US actress Kathryn Hays, who starred in the soap opera As The World Turns, has died aged 87. The star reportedly passed away on March 25 in Fairfield, Connecticut.
According to TVLine, and reported by the Mirror, Don Hastings, who starred alongside her in the American sitcom said in a statement: "Our relationship as Bob and Kim was as close as Kathryn and my relationship, except we were not married. We were more like brother and sister and we were great friends.
"Our biggest squabble was that she always wanted to rehearse and I wanted to take a nap. This is a huge loss to all who knew her."
Ms Hays rose to fame playing the role of Kim Hughes on As the World Turns from 1972 to 2010. Before landing her most famous role, the actress played Elizabeth Reynolds Pride in the western series The Road West.
In 1968, she had a notable cameo role on Star Trek - playing a mute alien called Gem who was capable of assuming the pain and injuries of others, healing them in the process. The late actress starred in numerous sitcoms and soaps over the years and also appeared in films such as Ride Beyond Vengeance (1966) and Counterpoint (1968). She took on a guest role in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Law & Order towards the end of her career.
The mum-of-one's final work took place in May 2020, when see appeared on an episode of The Locher Room, a series of YouTube episodes reuniting various soap stars. She was born in Princeton, Illinois, on July 26, 1933, and spent her childhood growing up in Joliet.
