As NBA trade deadline nears, Eric Gordon dealing with plantar fasciitis

Rockets guard and popular NBA trade deadline target Eric Gordon missed Sunday’s game and Monday’s practice with what Houston is now referring to as plantar fasciitis, and he’s doubtful for Tuesday’s game at New Orleans. Gordon was listed as out Sunday with left heel soreness.

Head coach Stephen Silas said at Monday’s practice that Gordon’s situation is viewed as a day-to-day injury, which suggests that it isn’t anything overly concerning that might alter his trade value. Nonetheless, on this of all weeks, expect the Rockets to err on the side of caution.

When available, Gordon continues to be a two-way force. In the 2021-22 season, he’s shooting a career-high 49.1% overall and 42.7% on 3-pointers, and he provides significant value defensively, as well. In 29.5 minutes per game, he averages 14.2 points and 3.0 assists.

Yet, at 33 years old, he doesn’t seem to fit with the rebuilding timeline of the young Rockets, who currently own the worst record in the Western Conference. Thus, Gordon is seen as a potential candidate to be moved by the Thursday, Feb. 10 trade deadline for in-season deals.
