As Ice Age prepares to return once again with Boiling Point, the sixth film in the long-running saga, one fan has noticed that the first movie predicted its sequels near-perfectly.
In a moment from the original film, which you can see below, Sid the sloth wanders away from his friends and sees some disturbing frozen creatures in the ice. First, he sees a fish with sharp teeth, then a dinosaur, then a tableau of a lifeform evolving that ends with Sid himself, and finally a UFO.
The first Ice Age (2002) movie actually teased every sequel they were going to make in chronological order.😭 pic.twitter.com/Vi5gE6NpiPJune 4, 2026
The first Ice Age sequel, The Meltdown, is all about vicious underwater critters. The third film, Dawn of the Dinosaurs, features… well, dinosaurs. The fourth, Continental Drift, isn't about evolution but does feature Sid's grandma and the rest of his family.
As for the UFO, that actually does come into play in a sequence involving Scrat the squirrel in Ice Age 5, titled Collision Course. Scrat actually ends up going to space, though we'll have to wait and see if the rest of the gang get any interstellar adventures.
The Boiling Point trailer doesn't give much away, but does show the gang flying through the air in slow-motion, and it seems to be hinting at a volcanic eruption. Lava would certainly explain the title.
Ice Age: Boiling Point arrives on February 5, 2027. In the meantime, fill out your watchlist with our guide to all the most exciting upcoming movies and upcoming TV shows.
