As God of War Laufey puts Kratos to one side, its director hopes "we can keep telling stories about everybody going forward"

God of War Laufey.

The leading lady of God of War Laufey may not be a one-off protagonist. While God of War 2018 director Cory Barlog has assured players that the series will, "always tell stories about Kratos," that doesn't mean there isn't room for other people to share the spotlight.

That comes from Laufey director Ariel Lawrence, who tells GamesRadar+ that the series has the potential to tell many stories, not just the beloved Spartan's.

"I hope that all the characters that we introduce across all of the games are deep enough, resonant enough that they could carry their own game forward," she says. "If Kratos had been in the Everywhen, he may have been a little bit more stoic and a little bit more closed off to the experience.

"So, I think for Faye, that curiosity and that exploration of the world allowed us to have the player have that curiosity and that exploration for the world, and where she goes beyond this on the adventure, hopefully we can keep telling stories about everybody going forward."

God of War 2018 began Kratos's Norse saga, which has spanned two games so far. If Lawrence believes that Faye isn't too different from her husband, then it stands to reason that there is plenty of potential for her arc to cover more than just what we will see in God of War Laufey. The story of Faye's game will also run parallel to the 2018 reboot and its sequel, Ragnarök, with fans already theorizing on how the games will overlap.

In an interview with GameSpot, Lawrence states that Barlog "always knew how important Faye was" to the future of God of War. In many ways, it feels like God of War Laufey is just the beginning for the character. Even if Faye does not get a second game, her presence in the ongoing story of Kratos and Atreus means she will likely show up in the future in one form or another. The excitement surrounding Laufey also shows that audiences are ready for stories in the God of War universe that leave Kratos on the sidelines, even if only for a moment.

God of War Laufey director says Marvel humor won't infect the series through the big, silly cube: "He's not meant to be a joke"
