ArtParty Weekender: Drag, DJs and more at free Canning Town festival from Social Convention

A new, free-to-attend micro-festival with a line-up ranging from drag shows to pan-Arabic DJ sets will land in Canning Town next month.

ArtParty Weekender is being helmed by Social Convention, a not-for-profit outfit, and will run at the organisation’s café-bar and production space in the Royal Docks from September 23-25.

Comedy drag act Séayoncé will headline the Friday line-up, with the multi-genre DJ Big Hen delivering a two-hour set.

Mera Bhai — the London-born founder of psych-rock band Flamingods — will top the bill on Saturday in his DJ guise, bringing together strands of music from old-school disco to Indian Carnatic music. South-east London jazz artist INSXGHT will perform alongside his quartet, preceded by DJ sets from Luma and Go! Bananas.

Sunday will kick off at 1pm, with the London-based DJ collective TO-STEPPERS seeing to the tunes, before an as-yet-unconfirmed live music act closes out the festival.

The ArtParty concept will carry on after the initial weekender with monthly events, exhibitions, gigs at Social Convention’s HQ in the Royal Docks.

The weekender is free to attend, although attendees need to register beforehand. Head to socialconvention.org to secure your spot.
