An artist has overseen the creation of a massive Union flag to celebrate the West Midlands’ heritage as a “magical melting pot” – by re-purposing flags discarded after unauthorised lamppost displays.
Birmingham-based textile sculptor Clare Elisabeth says Re-Union Jack, incorporating dozens of worn-out flags, is a response to a flag-raising movement which “has caused division in communities across the country”.
