A huge fire ripped through Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh city centre, sparking an emergency response.
Hero fire crews raced to the scene near Holyrood Park after the alarm was raised around 10pm last night.
Images and video footage taken at the site show the famous hill engulfed in bright orange flames while thick, black smoke billows over the city centre.
It is believed the plumes of smoke could be seen across Dumbiedykes and Southside, too.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service told Edinburgh Live that they have received 156 calls about the blaze since the first report came through.
The inferno continues to rage on today, they said, but the fire service are no longer required as park rangers are attending and monitoring the scene.
A spokesperson added that the fire service would contact the park rangers to attend the blaze again if necessary, although it has now been isolated to a number of 'hot spots' on the hill.
It is not yet clear how the fire started, but it has been confirmed no injuries were sustained as a result of the incident.
The fire is the second one to hit Scotland's capital in just two weeks, with the gorse on Calton Hill also being ravaged by flames during the hot and dry weather.
A SFRS spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 10.01pm on Monday, July 11 to reports of a fire on a hillside at Arthur’s Seat, Holyrood Park, Edinburgh.
“Operations Control mobilised two fire appliances and firefighters extinguished a fire affecting approximately 50 metres of gorse.
“There were no reported casualties and crews have now left the scene.”
