Arsene Wenger hails 'monstrous' Liverpool pair after Champions League heroics

Arsene Wenger has hailed the ‘monstrous’ Liverpool pair of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

The former Arsenal manager heaped praise on them after Liverpool’s 5-2 aggregate win over Villarreal on Tuesday night which saw the Reds qualify for the Champions League final. Both Salah and Mane have shown remarkable durability this season as Liverpool chase an unprecedented quadruple. They have each featured 46 times in all competitions across the campaign. Mane has scored 21 goals while Salah has netted 30 and the Egyptian was last week named as The Football Writers' Association Player of the Year.

Both players also featured seven times during the African Cup of Nations earlier this year and have played seven World Cup qualifiers since September 2021. Mane’s Senegal defeated Salah’s Egypt on penalties in both the African Cup of Nations final and the final round of World Cup qualification.

Wenger was amazed at the productiveness and longevity of their seasons. “Look at Salah and Sadio, who played the Africa Cup of Nations final,” he told beIN Sports. “What they have done since they have come back, it’s monstrous. We would have complained in Europe that we played too many games - never a word. Tonight, Mane has been kicked all over the place, never a word.”

Liverpool continue their quadruple chase this Saturday evening against Tottenham at Anfield.
