Arsenal World Cup latest as Tomiyasu returns, fitness boost confirmed and Saliba photoshoot

Arsenal's 10 representatives at the 2022 World Cup are going through their final preparations as the tournament gets underway on Sunday.

Straight after last weekend's 2-0 win over Wolves - which confirmed the Gunners will have a five-point lead over Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table at Christmas - the aforementioned players joined up with their respective national teams to embark on the World Cup journey in Qatar.

Some pre-World Cup warm-up fixtures involving the Arsenal contingent have already taken place whilst for others, it's been a case of putting in the hard yards in training as well as fulfilling some media obligations and in Bukayo Saka's case, showcasing his skills at basketball.

With that said, football.london has taken a look at what the 10 Gunners stars have been getting up to over the past 24 hours as they count down the minutes until the World Cup officially begins.

Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey were on opposing teams on Thursday as Switzerland were beaten 2-0 by Ghana. The former started whilst the latter was an unused substitute, still, they sought each other out at the final whistle for a quick catch-up before going their separate ways.

After missing Arsenal's final three games before the World Cup break, Takehiro Tomiyasu returned to a matchday squad for the first time since limping off against FC Zurich. However, he didn't make it onto the pitch as Japan were beaten by Canada and it remains to be seen if he will be involved against Germany next Wednesday.

Gabriel Martinelli has looked sharp in Brazil training this week, causing problems for Liverpool midfielder Fabinho during one session - that also included club teammate Gabriel Jesus - and showing manager Tite that he is ready to make an impact if called upon at the World Cup.

William Saliba was part of the France official photoshoot on Thursday and was all smiles in training as he took to Instagram to upload a picture of him being part of the winning team alongside Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, Antoine Griezmann, Kingsley Coman, Aurelien Tchouameni, Jules Kounde, Eduardo Camavinga and Marcus Thuram.

Despite being at the centre of a stunning Arsenal fan transfer theory involving Jude Bellingham, Ben White was reunited with close friend Kalvin Phillips in England training. Following that session, Saka and other members of the squad enjoyed a kickaround against some migrant construction workers and Aaron Ramsdale spent his time with Jordan Pickford and Nick Pope.

Matt Turner has confirmed he is now fully fit following a groin issue that ruled him out of the PSV Eindhoven away game last month: "I'm 100 percent, no limitations, smashing balls again, all good," he told reporters. "It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. I actually was like on the border of tears.

"I know that sounds a bit soft, but I’ve never had to do that before. I’ve never had to really listen to my body and feel like maybe it wasn’t the right move to push through something.

"I’ve pushed through many injuries in my career, many little nicks that might have held someone else out, that’s never been my M.O. So to go against everything that was ingrained in me and look out for myself was challenging, and that can be hard in professional sports."
