Arsenal vs Manchester City tactics: How Premier League title tussle will be decided

Arsenal host Manchester City in a titanic battle at the top of the Premier League tonight.

The Gunners could see their lead cut completely should the champions win at the Emirates Stadium, though a victory for Mikel Arteta’s side would be a huge statement of intent.

While Arsenal have stuttered somewhat in recent weeks, few can argue City have been at their best this season, making tonight’s game a fascinating affair.

Here’s what Simon Collings sees as the key factors.

Ake v Saka

Arsenal’s form has dipped lately, but Bukayo Saka hasn’t. The winger remains the Gunners’ biggest weapon in attack and the plan will be to get the ball to him as quickly as possible.

City have struggled for options at left-back this season and Pep Guardiola should turn to Nathan Ake tonight. The Dutchman is traditionally a centre-back, with his pace and power making him best placed to stop Saka.

Haaland v Saliba

Fresh from going 12 rounds with Ivan Toney, now William Saliba must dust himself down and face Erling Haaland. Saliba has excelled during his first full season in England, but he struggled with Toney’s physicality.

Haaland poses a similar threat and the key will be Saliba receiving support, both from right-back Ben White and fellow centre-back Gabriel. The Frenchman is hungry to win the ball high up, but may be wise in dropping off Haaland.

De Bruyne v Odegaard

Martin Odegaard is in the in-form playmaker in the Premier League, but Kevin De Bruyne will be out to change that tonight.

The Belgian has struggled for form this season, however his ability to deliver in big games makes him a threat. Both De Bruyne and Odegaard will look to get on the ball and dictate the tempo of this match.

Whoever is successful in that will go a long way to determining the result.
